Growing up Haitian, we were only allowed to go three places, "Lekòl, Legliz, Lakay," which means church, school, and home. Though at times it felt very restrictive and sometimes downright traumatic, I realize that I have learned important lessons from these places about keeping my mind, spirit, and life in good health. In Haitian Creole, this phrase would be translated to lide, lespri, ak lavi an bòn sante. I invite you on this wellness journey with me. Paying homage to the Haitian culture and language, while also embracing the importance and intentionality of maintaining our mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
